Giving The Gifts Of Christmas
There are just a few weeks before Christmas. Have you finished your Christmas shopping? Some have focused Christmas upon what they will receive, while the true meaning of Christmas is tied more to giving. After all, the first Christmas was filled with gifts. The Angels gave glory to God, the shepherds gave worship, Wise men gave gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Mary and Joseph gave their lives and God gave His Son. Today, we seek to give gifts to brighten the lives of our loved ones. There is certainly nothing wrong with that motive. We should have a desire to brighten the lives of others. However, if we are going to do this shouldn’t we give gifts that have a lasting effect? Toys and other objects come and go very quickly. While there is nothing wrong with such gifts, those of us who know Jesus should also be giving gifts related to the changes He has made in our lives. The Bible says that believers we are to have a character marked by love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we allow God to develop these characteristics in our lives, we give others the gift of seeing Jesus in us. It is important that people know Christmas is about the birth of Jesus and it is also important that people know that we have accepted that same Jesus in our hearts as our Lord and Savior. It is that acceptance of Jesus that changes our lives and eternity and that is what the true Christmas is about. This Christmas give the gift of pointing people to Jesus by your life and by your words.
