Looking Toward A Blessed New Year
How will you enter this new year? Are you looking for bad things to come with the turning of the calendar? Are you being pursued by your mistakes and sins of yesterday causing you to expect the worst to happen in the present? Certainly, we should seek to right any wrong that is in our power to correct. However, our world is not constructed so that we can go back in time and not commit the wrongs we have done. Fretting about your past will not make it disappear. Life is structured to move forward. The only day in which we can live is today. Fortunately for the believer today is enough. It is true that every day with Jesus can be a day of fulfillment and blessing. When we receive Jesus as our Savior and Lord we also receive His forgiveness. There is the assurance that all of our sins have been forgiven. The Scriptures tell us that the blood sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is sufficient to cover all the sins of our lives and wash our souls clean. “Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” So now, as believers, we can face each day in the love and forgiveness of Jesus. Without the weight of our past imperfections, we are free to reach forward to accomplish God’s desires. Since we are trusting God to have taken care of our past, shouldn’t we move forward trusting Him to guide us through the future? This means we can face the new year with the freshness of one who can accomplish all things through Christ Jesus, who strengthens us.
