As I sit down to write this article it is the day of the College Football National Championship game between Clemson University and the University of Alabama. If you know me at all it should not be difficult for you to guess which of these two teams I would like to win. If you do not know let me give you a hint by sharing with you the framed degree on my office wall. It is a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Alabama with my name on it. Yes, that makes me an Alabama Alumnus and because of that I am an Alabama fan. To add interest to the day I am also a football fan. This means on this day my favorite team will be playing my favorite sport for the National Championship. This is not something that happens every day or even every year. When this day is over, my team could be the National Champions or not. As you read this you already know the outcome. This is certain, when the game is completed I will not have played one play. Yet, if Alabama wins, I will claim it is my victory though I did nothing to earn it.
When Jesus came back from the grave after having died on the cross He had won a victory over sin, Satan, death and Hell. I did not do one thing to help Him in this victory. When I accepted Jesus as my Savior, His victory became mine. I cannot deserve such a gift, I can only receive and enjoy it as my own. This victory opens up all of heaven for those who will receive Him. It means we have been forgiven and entered into the family of God. Now, that’s the Championship that’s worth having! Ok - that said, I still want Bama to win.
