Seeking To Do One Thing
What do you have planned for the new year? It has often been said that to fail to plan is to plan to fail. With that in mind shouldn’t there be at least some general concept in our minds of something we would like to accomplish in 2015? Some determine to loose weight while others seek a job or school goal. The Apostle Paul gives us a better idea for our immediate future. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.(Phil. 3:13-14) In short, Paul sets forth the determination to be more like Jesus. This means we are to set His life as our pattern and reach forward to accomplish His purpose. After all, if we are truly saved and He is our Lord, shouldn’t we seek to accomplish the same thing He came to do? Jesus said His goal is to “seek and to save the lost.” So if we follow the high calling of God in Jesus we will set our one thing in the coming year as seeking to draw lost people to Jesus. Now, we cannot actually win the lost but we can give lost people the opportunity to be won. Think on giving yourself to inviting at least one person a week to Sunday School. Determine that you will share the gospel with at least one person each month or at least each quarter. Keep a watch on your goal and make sure your life is in the Lord’s will. Through walking with the Lord and sharing His purpose you will find yourself accomplishing something eternal in 2015.
