Sharing The Friendship Of Jesus
In this day, when people are living more and more to themselves, we need friends. We need individuals who will be there for us in the best of times and in the worst of times. People who we can say anything to without being judged and people who can and will tell us the truth without condemnation. We need people who will cry and laugh with us. We need friends who will stand by us when we make mistakes and lift us up when we have fallen. To have even one such friend is a great blessing.
If you know Jesus as your personal Savior, you have a friend who will never leave you nor forsake you.“What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear, what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.” Jesus wants to be our friend in the highest and best sense of the word. The Scripture tells us there is a friend that keeps closer than a brother. Jesus is that friend. More than anything else in this world, Jesus is the friend you need.
Now, those of us who have entered into this eternal friendship with Jesus are to share that friendship with one another. We are to think and act as Jesus would think and act toward each other. It is the love we share as believers that is a great witness to the lost world around us. We must put His style of friendship into our daily lives. That means we will give as a friend, help as a friend, live as a friend and we will forgive as a friend. This is the type of friendship our Lord has provided for us and it is the type of friendship that must flow through our church.
